Call 435-865-4519 and follow the prompts. The inspectors need at least 24-hours notice.

What details must I provide to the City Building Dept in order to request a building inspection?
For a City building inpection,call 435-865-4519, Option 1 or 0; you must provide the following:
--Building Permit Number
--Address of property
--Contact Name and Tel. #
--Type of inspection needed
--Date and general time you desire the inspection
--For gas-related inspections, you must have a
Gas Clearance Form
completed and at the site. (See under "Forms" link on our Home Page)
--For power-related inspections, you must have a Power Work Order Number from Rocky Mt. Power.

Do I need a Permit for an accessory building? (sheds, barns, detached garages)
As long as the structure is less than 120 square feet and has no electrical or plumbing features, a permit is not required. Any size building with electrical or plumbing features requires a Permit and inspections. Verify the setbacks with the Building & Zoning Department. Call 435-586-2957.

Do I need a Permit to install a fence?
A permit is not required to install a fence that is 6' or less in height. A fence higher than 6' requires consultation with our Building and Zoning Dept. You will need to check with the Bulding and Zoning Department to verify the setback and location requirements.

What are the setbacks for a fence?
Front: 1' off sidewalk and no more than 30" high.
Side and Rear: 6' from property line.

Is a Bond required at the time of a Building Permit?

Residential Permit Requirements

--Fill out the Pre-Construction Building Permit geo-technical data sheet.
--Fill out the Owner Building Affidavit if applicable.
--Submit the Prairie Dog HCP forms and Clearance Letters. The Clearance Letter comes from the Division of Wildlife Resources, and the HCP form is

Commercial and Industrial Permit Requirements
--Requires attending the Project Review Meeting--typically held the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month at 8:30AM, City Office 2nd Floor Conference Room.
--Submit the Project Review Committee Appearance Application. It can be accessed
online
or picked up at the Building & Zoning Dept in the City Office at 10 N. Main.
--Project Review checks for compliance of the site in relation to the zoning ordinance and utility companies rquirements.
--Required are 15 sets of plans 1- 24X36 and 14- 11X17. These are to be turned in by 5PM the Thursday BEFORE the meeting you want to attend.
--When Project Review has approved the Site Plan, turn in 2 full sets of Building Plans Drawings that are stamped by an architect or engineer licensed in the state of Utah.

How can I see a list of permits issued for a certain location or time period?
--Visit the State Construction Registry website

--Click on "Public Search Functionality" on lefthand side of the screen.
--Select the desired location (Cedar City) where it says "Issuing municipality".
--Leave all the other fields blank.
--Then submit the search. This will bring up all the permits that have been submitted to the SCR system by that location. You can also enter a specific time period to be searched.
If you scroll to the right of the page and select see details, you will be prompted for payment.
--If you have set up a "pay as you go account', and you are logged in to the SCR system, you would not be asked for payment. Those with a pay as you go account are only asked for payment if they submit a filing.

Fire Department

Can we tour the fire station?
Yes, by appointment. Tour hours are between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday. You may call to arrange an appointment at (435) 586-2964.

Can I burn my weeds/brush?
No, Inside Cedar City limits there is a NO BURN ordinance.
If; you live Outside of Cedar City limits, open burn is April 15 to May 15 and you must call the fire station each time at (435) 586-2964 to notify and get current information. Other times during the year, BURNING IS PROHIBITED.
3.
Can I have a cooking fire?
•Your fire must be small fire designed for cooking of food, e.g., confined to an area no larger than 30 inches in diameter and less than 300 square inches, with flame lengths no higher than 3 feet during the ignition phase and thereafter kept as a small smoldering fire. In the surrounding area, a minimum of 2 feet in all directions shall be free of combustible materials.
•The fire must be attended until completely extinguished.
•If the fire becomes a nuisance to your neighbors, as defined in section 25 of the city ordinances, you will be asked to extinguish the fire.
•In special circumstances such as a religious or group activities that require a bigger fire (roasting pigs, dutch-oven, etc) a permit shall be obtained from the fire department.
•If the fire results in an out-of-control-fire, the responsible party shall be charged for the suppression costs.
•The fire department therefore would recommend that all recreational cooking be done over a gas fired appliance to limit the possibility of a fire becoming a nuisance to your neighbors.

What are the Leisure Services office hours?
The office is open from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. We are closed occasionally for lunch or city meetings. The office is located on the north corner of the Main Street Park right next to Hermies. Our address is 286 N. Main St.

What events are sponsored by the Leisure Services Department?
Youth activities vary throughout the year but include tennis, baseball, softball, basketball, flag football, tumbling, and a soccer skills clinic. Adult activities also vary throughout the year but include Women’s Volleyball, Adult Softball and Men’s Basketball.

What are the Parks and Outdoor Facilities office hours?
The office is open from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. We are closed occasionally for lunch or city meetings. The office is located on the north corner of the Main Street Park right next to Hermies. Our address is 286 N. Main Street.

How do I reserve a park and how much is it?
Parks are open to everyone during daylight hours. You can reserve a pavilion through the Parks and Outdoor Facilities office at 286 N. Main Street. The fee is $15 for a half day rental (10:00 am - 4:00 pm) or (5:00 pm - Dark) or $30 for an all day rental (10:00 am - Dark). This can be paid with cash, check, visa or mastercard. A $25 cleaning deposit is also needed in check form. If the pavilion is left clean, the check is shredded. If you have any questions, contact the Parks and Outdoor Facilities office at (435) 865-9223.

I reside in Cedar Valley. How do I know if I can hook onto the Cedar City sewer?
Call our Public Works Secretary at (435) 586-2912 to obtain a county sewer connection letter. You will then be referred to the County offices.

When are biosolids available to the public?
The schedule each year varies. Call the Treatment Facility at (435) 867-9426 for more information.
3.
Whom do I call if my drains are plugged?
A plugged line could be in the house or in the City’s main. In order to determine where the plug is, call a local plumber. If the plumber determines that the plug is in the City main, you can call Wastewater Collections at (435) 865-6922 and set up an inspection with our operators. If it is an emergency situation, you can also call the on-call number at 435-233-0695.

How do I report a water leak in the street?
You can call the Water Division at (435) 586-2968 and notify us of the leak location. If this is an after hours emergency, you can call the on-call pager at (435) 235-4100 and enter your contact phone number. Someone will return your call.
