To accommodate the switch to the DDI, Cross Hollow Road under I-15 and the I-15 on- and off-ramps will be closed from 10 p.m. on August 23, until 6:00 a.m. on August 25. The DDI configuration was selected over traditional interchange configurations because of the increased safety it provides and its ability to serve future traffic volumes.
What to expect during and after the closure
During the closure times, traffic on Cross Hollow Road will be unable to cross under I-15 and I-15 traffic will be unable to use Exit 57. Signs indicating detour routes will be provided during the closure. We anticipate delays and ask drivers to plan ahead and use an alternate route.
Once reopened on Monday morning, drivers will utilize the new DDI in addition to the new southbound on-ramp and northbound off-ramp. Crews will continue to work in the area around the DDI over the next two months to configure the islands, sidewalk and barrier.
Work at the intersection of Cross Hollow Road and Main Street/Old Highway 91 will continue and require one additional traffic switch to complete construction.
The project is anticipated to be complete in late October.
How to navigate the new DDI
Some drivers may be familiar with the DDI that was recently opened in St. George, at the I-15 and St. George Boulevard exit. If you haven’t had an opportunity to drive a DDI yet, the new signing and striping will assist you through the interchange. It’s important to remember that you will cross onto the opposite side of the road when traveling under I-15. For example, if you are traveling east on Cross Hollow Road your travel lane will shift from the south side of the road to the north side. Your lane will shift back to the south side after you have passed under I-15. Each cross-over point will be signalized.
Direction of travel determines whether a right or left turn is used to access I-15. Drivers heading eastbound on Cross Hollow Road wishing to enter northbound I-15, or drivers heading westbound wishing to enter southbound, will use the left travel lane. Drivers heading eastbound wishing to enter southbound, or drivers heading westbound wishing to enter northbound, will use the right travel lane.
We understand that any new configuration can be confusing, so we encourage everyone to visit the project website (www.udot.utah.gov/go/southcedar) to view videos of DDIs throughout Utah. Also, please remember to pay close attention to the signs and striping on your first trip through the DDI.
